November is far too early to be talking about Christmas but both the Ottery St Mary

Silver Band and Brass Class, the training band, are busy preparing for the Christmas

Brass Class is hard at work in their refurbished band room and would like to send

many thanks to those who have contributed to the refurbishment. In particular,

thanks are given to the Town Council for their assistance and also those who

attended the Brass Class concert in July. The money raised has gone towards new

storage areas, new blinds and replacement flooring.

Brass class has had the pleasure of two new learners joining the group this term.

Participating with others not only improves playing skills but it promotes healthy

social skills and team work. The group is looking forward to performing in and

around the town over the festive period.

By the time you read this, the Silver Band’s musicals concert will be but a memory

but take a look at the photo from one of the rehearsals for that concert for a reminder

of the variety of music which the audience enjoyed. On the right, you can see our

fabulous singers, Al and Naomi, and, on the left, is Martin, making a first for the band

to be joined by an electric guitar. Singers, band and guitar all came together for a

toe-tapping final number “Proud Mary” (and, yes, you do know the tune but you

might not recognise the title) made popular in the 1970s by Tina Turner.

The next concert for the Silver Band is the Christmas concert on Saturday 15

December so do put the date in your diary now.
